A man begins to believe his beautiful wife is cheating on him. He hires a PI to find out what's going on. As usual, Chabrol creates a subtle and uncomfortable atmosphere, as we live side by side with the poor husband through his anxiety and suffering. He takes drastic steps to remedy the situation, though. And it is just oh so very creepy, with the soft-focus and Prokofiev-like string-section soundtrack...
... and this movie is... masterful.
