Ex-football star Mike Gambril meets Terry McKay on a flight to Sydney, which is forced to land on a small atoll. Both engaged to others, they become romantic on board the ship sent to take the passengers to a larger island. They agree to meet in New York City three months later to see if the attraction is real. One shows up, the other doesn't, but they run into each other afterwards.

Hollywoodian...

Maybe you have to be in the right mood for this movie. Or maybe it's this movie which will get you in the right mood 😊.

The critics almost universally - notably not Roger Ebert, the most respected and well-known cinema critic of all time, who gave it 3/4 stars - panned this movie. It was on most critics' 'worst films of the year' lists. But maybe - just maybe - this increases my affection for Love Affair. Because I liked this film. No - I loved it; everything about it, from Katherine Hepburn's appearance, to the clichés and sheer, blatant glamour of just about everything. For Garry Shandling, for Annette Bening, for Warren Beatty. And for Ennio Morricone's wonderful score. Sod the critics... !

This is what cinema should be.

Pure enjoyment.
